The Argentinian Artist Whose Colorful Closet and Music Are Inspired by Postmodern Furniture

Image
When I ask Argentinian-born, Portland-based artist Pilar Zeta to describe her work, she struggles to find the words. She throws around “colorful,” “retro-futuristic,” and “otherworldly,” which are all appropriate, before settling on a description that represents her virtual designs best: “It’s like a parallel universe!” Zeta’s honed in on this distinct visual language—inspired by her interests in Egypt, magic, and metaphysics—in various forms over the years. She’s designed album artwork for bands like Coldplay, she’s provided live visuals for Katy Perry on tour, and she even had a brief stint as a clothing designer with her brand, Holographic Universe, which was inspired by neoclassical sculptures and time travel. Even her home, which she moved into last year with her partner, prolific producer Jimmy Edgar, is an extension of her surreal, bold designs: Every colorful piece of postmodern furniture feels as carefully placed as the objects that float in her almost 3-D virtual landsca

Victoria Beckham Is Both Posh and Socially Conscious in a Faux Leopard Coat

Image
Victoria Beckham arrived late last night into New York City channeling a modern day Edie Sedgwick. No, no, Beckham hasn’t traded her wide-leg trousers for a black leotard just yet. Instead the designer topped off her airport ensemble with a Factory-worthy leopard print coat. Wide lapels and a split sleeve added drama to the already standout piece—and that’s not even the best part. Made in heavyweight chenille, the coat provides both an animal-friendly take on outwear and a cozy option for a trans-Atlantic journey. Beckham employed a strong sense of tailoring for the rest of her look: a fitted black turtleneck and flared trousers. She topped it off with a spring 2019 collection gold-trimmed bag and bold Céline sunglasses. Even with an all-black ensemble, there’s no way Beckham could slip under the radar in a coat this good.

Inside the Private Island Resort Where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Stayed in Fiji

Image
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 16-day tour of Australia, Tonga, New Zealand, and Fiji is jam-packed with engagements (76, to be exact). But in the middle of it all, the couple managed to sneak in a luxurious night to themselves. According to multiple sources, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent an enchanted evening at Vatuvara Private Islands resort. The 800-acre property, which can only be accessed by private plane, has just three over-the-top villas. Its “flagship” home, called the Delana Villa, has an infinity pool, a private beach, an indoor massage area, and its own dining gazebo, all overlooking the South Pacific. The royal couple could also dine at one of Vatuvara’s gourmet restaurants, which source fruit and vegetables from the island’s organic farms and seafood out of its crystal-blue waters. Soon, the resort will also produce its own virgin coconut oil and ocean salt. It’s unlikely that Harry and Meghan had much time for activities, as they were off to Tonga the next m

Victoria Beckham Takes Her Travel-Friendly Tailored Suit for a Train Ride to Paris

Image
Victoria Beckham might have just celebrated her eponymous label’s 10th anniversary, but the English designer isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Earlier today, Beckham arrived at Paris’s Gare du Nord station impeccably attired in the ultimate travel uniform: a sharp suit. The look is a return to form for Beckham, who stepped out this spring in her sleek takes on traditional menswear to celebrate her curation of an Old Masters painting sale for Sotheby’s and the opening of a garden terrace at Scott’s restaurant in London. Beckham’s wide, peaked-lapel, single-button jacket took cues from formalwear, but the fabric, even after a Eurostar ride, remained wrinkle-free. The same ease applied to her 1970s-inspired wide-leg trousers, which, together with Beckham’s signature high heels, elongated her silhouette. Beckham’s accessories also had a retro touch, from her signature oversize Céline shades to her suede chain-link purse worn as a clutch to her oversize gold pendant necklace comm

Rihanna and Slick Woods Share a Fenty Puma Maternity Moment

Image
When Rihanna and her girls get together, you know that something great is bound to happen. Last night on Instagram, the star updated with a touching—and chic—post dedicated to Slick Woods, a regular on the runway at Fenty Puma, who is currently expecting her first child. With Rihanna in a glossy turquoise latex mini-dress and Woods sporting one of the racing-themed onesies from the brand’s Spring 2018 show, the duo’s style was on point, but the message behind the moment was what made the looks meaningful. Woods, who recently announced that she’s expecting a boy who she plans to name Saphir, has shared her excitement about being a mom throughout her pregnancy. As an eventual aunty, Rihanna joined in the celebration posting, that she “can’t wait to meet” the infant while giving Woods’s belly a big hug. With Woods wearing a piece from the superstar’s line, the shot was an especially cute display of support and love between friends.

Olé! Olé! Kendall Jenner Elevates Toreador Style in Paris

Image
She's put her stamp on the girlboss flannel suit by pairing it with sneakers and made the safari suit city-friendly through clever accessorizing, and earlier today in Paris, Kendall Jenner brought an eye-catching twist to another unlikely matching set: the toreador suit. Jenner stepped out to visit the Alexander Wang atelier before popping by haute boîte L’Avenue for lunch wearing UK-based design duo Marques’Almeida’s take on the style, which married Latin-influenced ruffles and color with edgy London vibes. The fiery red jacket-and-trouser combo had an elongating effect, while a matching skinny belt, tightly cinched a la 1980s divas, enhanced the hourglass shape. Its grommet accents carried through in the hardware-heavy piece, from the snaps on the collar to the O-rings holding the split sleeve hems together. The chain-link strap of Jenner’s Longchamp pocketbook furthered the metal-trim moment, while a pair of black python Yeezy boots gave the ensemble a mod lift.

The Most Stylish World Cup Soccer Jerseys You’ll Want to Wear After the Game Ends

Image
The World Cup kicks off tomorrow in Russia. But the game itself isn’t the only exciting thing about the event: The fashion on the field is worth watching, too. Take Nigeria’s soccer jersey—or rather, kit—which has made headlines over the past few weeks. The cheerful Nike-designed piece has sold a record-breaking 3 million units already, but it’s not the only country that boasts a stellar uniform. Other homegrown standouts include a classic number from Argentina, a pared-back incarnation from Peru, and a print-tastic one from Croatia. Here, see our favorite jerseys to wear post-World Cup.

Kristen Stewart Breaks the Cannes Red Carpet Rules (Again) With Surprisingly Chic Results

Image
By now Kristen Stewart’s status as a red carpet rule breaker is the stuff of legend. As someone who has broken the Cannes no flats rule, arrived at a premiere with a freshly shaved head, and found a million new ways to wear deconstructed denim, Stewart is used to doing her own thing and today at the annual amfAR gala she did just that. With the dress code for the event leaning towards slinky sexiness or overwrought glamour, guests tend to pull out revealing couture, but Stewart kept things cool. Selecting a striped number from Chanel’s Resort 2019 collection, the actress took a modern approach to the nautical trend. The look was a whimsical choice—tea length, covered in sparkles, with criss-crossing bands covering its bodice. Adding on a Chanel onyx and diamond cuff and a pair of black Louboutins, Stewart upped the room’s it factor by a mile. If selecting arguably the best look from Karl Lagerfeld’s latest collection wasn’t enough excitement for one day, Stewart and stylist Tara Sw

Two of L.A.’s Coolest Labels Stage an “Anti-Fashion” Show

Image
The line to see ComeSesso, a collaboration between fashion label No Sesso and small-batch clothing line Come Tees, wrapped around a warehouse near the banks of the Los Angeles River where the event took place this past Saturday. Long queues like this are usually the reserve of rock concerts, but on the east side of L.A., fashion tends to have a little more grit. Both camps are part of a vibrant and radically inclusive underground scene, so of course the show was open to the public. The collection reflected that renegade spirit. Models came down a runway deejayed by Asmara of Nguzunguzu and Venus X from Ghe2G0th1k, in looks that were wearable but also decidedly punk. The common thread between these two emerging labels is undeniable—they both connect the dots between fashion and art, creating clothes with a DIY hand that could either be worn or hung on a wall. “I think we coalesce at a mutual love of textile art and sports apparel,” said Come Tees’s Sonya Sombreuil backstage after t

Melania Trump Wears Brandon Maxwell for St. Patrick’s Day at the White House

Image
Yesterday Melania Trump joined her husband in welcoming Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar for St. Patrick’s Day festivities at the White House. The First Lady paid homage to the Irish holiday in a green sheath by American designer Brandon Maxwell. The classic silhouette was one Trump has relied upon for public engagements in the past, though the animal print was an unexpected choice; the First Lady tends to draw on bold, solid colors. Trump continued the Animalia theme with a pair of her signature Christian Louboutin pumps in patterned snakeskin.

Foo and Foo, a Streetwear Label by Tommy Hilfiger’s Daughter, Is Coming to a Pop-Up Near You

Image
Elizabeth Hilfiger (yes, that’s Tommy Hilfiger’s daughter) started the label Foo and Foo in 2016 as a grunge-tinged line of hoodies and T-shirts punctured with piercing rings. Now she’s just shown her Fall 2018 collection, her first presentation, in the gymnasium of the Lower East Side’s Manny Cantor community wellness center, transforming it into a makeshift classroom. Here, the concept was a bit more sophisticated than piercings and was instead based on mathematics. “It’s all about the physics of the hoodies and how cloth interacts with friction, and that leads into Newton’s law,” said Hilfiger. “The graphic hoodies are about sine and cosine waves, which was the only type of math that I understand.” Models sat at desks, playing the role of disobedient students among crumpled-up test papers and soda cans, wearing the Foo and Foo garb. Attendees included a bevy of downtown It kids, including Walter Pearce of Midland Agency, who also cast the show, and Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta of

From Labyrinth to Zoolander, David Bowie’s Most Stylish Movie Roles

Image
There is no questioning David Bowie’s status as a fashion icon, but his influence was more far-reaching. Though he appeared in only a handful of films during his lifetime, Bowie managed to leave his sartorial mark on each role he took on. Playing FBI agents, vampires, and goblin royalty with a swagger few could match, the star, who would have been 71 today, managed to make even the most unusual characters seem stylish. Here, a look back at seven of his most fashionable roles and the iconic costumes he wore on-screen. As Jareth, the baby-snatching goblin king, Bowie shares the screen with Muppets and a teenaged Jennifer Connelly, but there’s no taking your eyes off of him and his over-the-top costumes. Designed by Brian Froud, Jareth’s getups come complete with ruffled blouses, jeweled embellishments, and sweeping capes ideal for ballroom dancing. Finishing it all off with eyeliner and an ’80s mullet, he’s easily the most fashion-forward Jim Henson creation.
